Daily Ear Training Routine
Ear training is like going to the gym: doing 10 minutes a day is vastly superior to doing 3 hours on Sunday. A structured, daily routine is the secret to unlocking relative pitch.
The 20-Minute Master Plan
To get a balanced workout, divide your practice into four 5-minute blocks using BananaTone's fast interface:
- 5 Min Intervals: Warm up your relative pitch. Start melodic, then switch to harmonic.
- 5 Min Chords: Practice identifying harmonic colors (Major vs Minor vs Diminished).
- 5 Min Scales: Listen to the broader context (Major vs Natural Minor vs Dorian).
- 5 Min Weaknesses: Pick the two intervals or chords you confused the most today, and drill them exclusively.
Consistency over Intensity
Your brain needs sleep to solidify aural neural pathways. If you practice for hours, you hit diminishing returns quickly and risk ear fatigue. Short, focused, daily bursts are scientifically proven to work better for audio recognition.
Tracking your progress
BananaTone automatically tracks your score and streaks in your browser. Try to beat your highest streak every day. If you hit 95% accuracy on a preset for three days in a row, it's time to increase the difficulty.
